The African Bar Association, AFBA has called on the President Paul Biya of Cameroon to release all political detainees in his custody and embrace a regime of peace and dialogue in resolving political issues.

Responding to the detention and arraignment of its vice-president, Central Africa , Mr. Felix Nkongho, AFBA in  a statement said it was lamentable that President Biya has taken the country into the dark ages with a brutal crackdown on dissent Nkongho who is also president of the English speaking lawyers in Cameroon, AFBA said he was amongst the many people clamped into detention by the Cameroonian authorities for protesting constitutional and other impediments clamped on the English speaking Southern Cameroons by President Biya.

AFBA in the statement issued by Mr. Osa Director, special adviser, media and publicity noted that the detainees were protesting against the “mass deployment of French teachers and educational curriculum into Southern Cameroon, thereby imposing French Language and educational methodology upon its people”.
